Mission Behind You X Bukky Ojeifo (Hair On Purpose)
•Posted on June 13 2016
Who are you? What do you do?
My name is Bukky Ojeifo and I have the honor of being the Founder and Executive Director of HairOnPurpose Incorporated!
What’s your mission?
Our mission at HairOnPurpose is to engage, educate and empower young girls during their formative years to live, love, and learn about their hair!
Why not just be great at what you do? Why give back?
I remember being in middle and high school always wanting to be someone else....always trying to follow trends...and not making the best decisions for myself. It wasn't until I was in college that I looked myself in the mirror and decided to embrace every single thing about myself, flaws and all. I give back so passionately because I want young women currently in school to understand that they are beautiful, powerful, and literally can do anything their heart desires. HairOnPurpose gives them the opportunity to learn all about hair, learn about their individual textures, learn how to maintain healthy hair and embrace themselves fully. Knowledge empowers people. HairOnPurpose provides knowledge therefor empowering our participants to make the best decisions for themselves.
What organizations do you feel the closest to and why?
I feel closest to organizations that are founded to truly build the confidence and overall well-being of our youth. Honestly, its tough being a teen in this day and age because of social media and their confidence being tied to how many followers, likes, or retweets they get. Our youth need strong leaders around them who love them unconditionally, but hold them to their HIGHEST standard.
Are there specific people that had a big influence on your desire to give back, if so who are they and how did they influence you?
My biggest influence on my desire to give back and continue to work hard, is my mother, Pauline Ojeifo. She is the epitome of what it means to be beautiful, hardworking, self-less and forgiving. Working in the non-profit industry is not easy and there are times when I have doubts and fears, but she motivates me to continue to work hard to impact as many amazing young women as possible!
If you could ask for 3 things in this world what would it be?
Wow...this is a great question..If I could ask for three things in this world I would ask for PEACE, LOVE and HAPPINESS for everyone!
What’s your life motto?
My life motto right now is based on a book by Shonda Rhimes "Year of Yes." Im committed during this time in my life to say "YES" to the things that I have been afraid to do for what ever reason. There is something powerful that happens to us when faced with a situation that scares us, but you do it any way.-
