Who are you? What do you do?
Jinhee Lee - Founder and CEO, Post Script
What’s your mission?
The mission of Post Script is to empower the youth to see the voice and stake they have in being the generation who have the capability and capacity to make a difference. We want to engage the youth in local and global issues and make them aware of problems we face, and challenge them to take action.
Why not just be great at what you do? Why give back?
When I was a freshman in high school, I watched a video and a student from Northern Uganda was plead, "please find it in your heart to help us, because if you don't I don't know where I hope could come from." I made a personal choice to do whatever I could to be sure to help and give back. It felt like I was in the mindset of, "If I don't do it, I'm sure someone else will." I didn't want to think like that anymore and I wanted to take action.
Are there specific people that had a big influence on your desire to give back, if so who are they and how did they influence you?
My biggest influence have been the people who told me I couldn't do it. As cliche as it is, I'd go to administration and tell them I wanted to start a new initiative, I was asked numerous question all led by doubt. It wasn't the "I'm going to prove everyone wrong" mentality, but more of a, "I need to do this to create a voice and standing for other people my age who want to make a difference." I know students' dreams and visions are penetrated by doubt of others and their own fears they're right. I was told that the prom dress collection, now run under Post Script as "Our Fairy Godmother", wasn't going to work. People worried that I couldn't collect enough dresses, that no one would come to the event, and etc. I almost didn't do it, but I knew that if I help at least just one person, it was a world better than helping no one because I was fearful. Now, our organization collects a minimum of 500 dresses and helps so many girls attend Prom.
If you could ask for 3 things in this world what would it be?
1. People to realize we're all humans. 2. Endless amounts of resources and funds to be able to make the world a better place 3. Genuine and sincere happiness for all my loved ones
What’s your life motto?
Love fearlessly and be genuine.
