So a few blog post ago I talked about rituals, one of mine is reading a daily devotional  The Upper Room http://devotional.upperroom.org. Can’t remember what day I was reading this devotional, but I came across this bible verse and it stuck with me and reminded me of what Mission Lane is about and what we should all try to do.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in various forms” - 1 Peter 4:10
My interpretation of this verse is that no matter what we are given we should use whatever we have to help others, regardless of how small it is. Sometimes we think that we don’t make enough money or that we can hardly pay our bills, so how can we help someone else.  We are over thinking it, sometimes helping someone out is just by offering to get their child from school, since they are exhausted and worked overnight, carrying someone’s groceries in the house, and if you have the extra dollars and you’re going to the supermarket asking them if they need something.
I recently got an email about a homeless family who finally got a roof over their heads and have a child who is in need of clothes. I jumped with excitement to help out, but then thought, can I afford to spare a few dollars right now? I seriously questioned it, mind you I was ready to go out and treat myself for lunch and a mani/pedi. I thought back to this bible verse and also to the fact that I’m blessed to have a job and home to come to and when people are trying to get back on their feet, it’s really important to show them that they have support. I was able to get the kids a few items and honestly felt like I made one of the best decisions all week. My conscious would have had the best of me if I would’ve turned the other way.
So if you see this verse around my website don’t be scurred, it’s just a reminder of our mission and what we are aiming to do out there.
xoxo,
Mission Lane
